JLR suppliers 'face bankruptcy' due to hack crisis
JLR suppliers'face bankruptcy' due to hack crisis The past two weeks have been dreadful for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), and the crisis at the car maker shows no sign of coming to an end. A cyber attack, which first came to light on 1 September, forced the manufacturer to shut down its computer systems and close production lines worldwide. Its factories in Solihull, Halewood, and Wolverhampton are expected to remain idle until at least Wednesday, as the company continues to assess the damage. JLR is thought to have lost at least £50m so far as a result of the stoppage. But experts say the most serious damage is being done to its network of suppliers, many of whom are small and medium sized businesses.

To Build Electric Cars, Jaguar Land Rover Had to Redesign the Factory
Transforming a car manufacturing plant entering its seventh decade into a futureproof facility, ready for AI-powered autonomous driving, comes with natural challenges. "We had to survey everything and go out with the tape measure," explains Dan Ford, site director at Jaguar Land Rover's (JLR) site in Halewood, Merseyside, England. "But the drawing's measurements were off: we struck a drainpipe." Besides that minor bump in the road (the Great British weather and an August downpour meant work was delayed by 48 hours), JLR's 250 million ( 323.4 million) upgrade of its Halewood plant has been smooth. Off the River Mersey, 10 miles from Liverpool, Halewood has long been synonymous with the British car industry--and JLR is the UK's largest automotive employer.

Never work with children or (robot) animals! Watch the moment Boston Dynamics' robot dog falls down a flight of stairs and breaks at Jaguar Land Rover's battery testing facility in Coventry
This is the moment a 60,000 robot dog takes a catastrophic fall down a flight of stairs and breaks during a botched demo. MailOnline caught the dramatic event on camera during a visit to Lyons Park, Jaguar Land Rover's battery testing facility in Coventry. Small parts scatter the floor and sparks fly as the industrial helper robot – sold by US firm Boston Dynamics – struggles to get back up. Gonzalo Ejarque-Rinaldini, technical project manager at JLR, told MailOnline that the poor pooch would need replacement parts installed before it could walk again. 'My trust in Boston Dynamics is as high as always – these machines are top class,' he told MailOnline.
Jaguar Land Rover Builds New Lab to Test Autonomous Driving
Jaguar Land Rover is building a new testing facility near its Gaydon headquarters to test its upcoming vehicles for electrical and radio interference. The so-called Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) laboratory will ensure future vehicles meet current and future legislation and quality standards for connectivity and electronics. The new Ranger Rover Sport, which was launched in May, was the first car to undergo bespoke testing at the facility. "The importance of testing our vehicles for electromagnetic compatibility cannot be underestimated. Opening this new testing facility is an important step forward for the business and it will play a crucial role in helping us deliver quality, legal, and customer satisfaction," says Peter Phillips, Senior Manager, Electromagnetics and Compliance at Jaguar Land Rover.

Jaguar Land Rover partners with NVIDIA to deliver AI features - TechHQ
Jaguar Land Rover, the UK's largest automotive manufacturer, has formed a multi-year strategic partnership with NVIDIA to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) into self-driving cars and create stunning virtual reality experiences. This announcement is a game-changer for the automotive industry as the all-new Jaguar, and Land Rover vehicles will be built on the NVIDIA DRIVE software-defined platform. The platform will deliver a broad spectrum of active safety, automated driving and parking systems, and driver assistance systems. The system will deliver AI features inside the vehicle, including driver and occupant monitoring and advanced visualization of the vehicle's environment. This full-stack solution is based on NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion, which features DRIVE Orin centralized AV computers; DRIVE AV and DRIVE IX software; safety, security, and networking systems; plus surround sensors.

Jaguar Land Rover says all of its cars will come with Nvidia's Drive computers by 2025
Jaguar Land Rover is teaming up with Nvidia to install high-powered computers in its vehicles to enable advanced driver assistance and autonomous driving features. Starting in 2025, all JLR vehicles will come with Nvidia's end-to-end Drive Hyperion platform installed, the companies said. Hyperion is the latest iteration of Nvidia's Drive platform that allows automakers to customize their own driving features. This new hardware will form the basis for a new suite of driving features, including advanced driver assistance systems, automated parking, and autonomous driving, the companies said. "Orin is the AI brain of the car, and Drive Hyperion is the central nervous system," said Danny Shapiro, Nvidia's vice president for automotive.

What CIOs Need to Know About Graph Database Technology - InformationWeek
The auto manufacturing supply chain is a complex web of suppliers, parts, specialized production lines, tools, and more. It's not an easy task to create a sales forecast and then plan out exactly the materials, parts, supplies, and tools needed to produce automobiles. It gets even more difficult when you throw in an unexpected highly disruptive event such as the COVID-19 pandemic. That's the position Jaguar Land Rover found itself in recently. The company needed to respond quickly when one of its suppliers failed. The company used graph technology to re-sequence how vehicle orders were to be built in the factory.

TigerGraph Offers Free Graph Database for On-Prem Analysis
TigerGraph today rolled out a new deal that allows customers to store up to 50 GB of data in a distributed graph database running on-premise, matching what it already offered in the cloud. The company also welcomed more than 3,500 attendees to its inaugural Graph AI World conference, which included keynotes from customers like Jaguar Land Rover and UnitedHealth. Banks and healthcare companies have some of the most compelling use cases for graph analytics, including anti-money laundering (AML) and drug discovery. However, these companies are also among the least able to take advantage of cloud-based graph offerings, such as TigerGraph Cloud, due to stringent data regulations. That's the reasoning that went behind TigerGraph's announcement today to give away copies of TigerGraph Enterprise Edition, its full-featured graph database.
Can't touch this: Jaguar Land Rover comes up with new gesture control system for cars
Jaguar Land Rover envisions a not-too-distant future where its cars have touchless monitors to "reduce the spread of bacteria." The automaker teamed up with Cambridge University and came up with "touchless touchscreens," or an AI-powered gesture-reading system in the wake of the pandemic. The technology called "Predictive Touch" responds by guessing where a driver intends to tap a screen without their fingers making contact with the surface. The theory is that it would enable motorists to pay more attention to the road and less attention to buttons and glass monitors while driving. "In the'new normal' once lockdowns around the world are lifted, a greater emphasis will be placed on safe, clean mobility where personal space and hygiene will carry premiums," the British automaker said in a press release.
